The Central Bureau of Statistics is optimistic the economy will grow by 4.5 percent in 2008, but economists are warning the rate will be slower because of the global economic crisis.

The Magnet Program committee, headed by Chief Scientist Dr. Eli Opper, has approved follow-on budgets amounting to NIS 55 million (approx. $15.7 million) for three consortia. The consortia are developing process control, water, and low-power electronic components.

Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) unit Bedek Aviation Group has won a follow-on contract from Air Transport Services Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ATSG) unit Cargo Aircraft Management Inc. to convert 14 Boeing 767-200 passenger jets to cargo planes for more than $100 million.
