Focus on … Air Travel...2008
During September 2008, 1.07 million passengers passed through Ben Gurion International Airport, 9.3% more than in the corresponding month last year. There was a 16% rise in traffic on internal flights at the airport to 35,115 from 30,273 in September 2007. Israel carriers flew about 400,000 passengers during September representing about 38.9% of all travelers, a rise of 4.2% compared with last year.

 

 

 

Focus on … Industry...Teva
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) has become the tenth largest company traded on Nasdaq in terms of market cap. Teva has climbed seven places since the start of 2008 with a current market cap of $32.47 billion.

 

 

 

Focus on … Consumerism
A new study reveals Israeli public spends just under two hours in each visit to shopping center, buying products for NIS 1,000 in average each month. Sixty-two percent of Israelis visit shopping malls at least once a month, according to a study conducted by the Industry, Trade and Labor's planning, research and economy administration on consumption patterns at Israeli malls in 2007.

 

 

 

Focus on … Collaborations I
The government of China's Jiangxi Province has signed a $200 million R&D collaboration agreement with Israel. This is the first agreement of its kind between a Chinese provincial government and Israel, and raises hopes for similar agreements with other provinces.

 

 

 

Focus on … Collaborations II
More than 30 companies, public entities, and chambers of commerce from across Ohio joined forces with Israel’s BioJerusalem Oct. 16. They signed a global partnership agreement at the Beachwood Business Development Center to increase economic development and cooperation in the bioscience industry.
